Staff
Executive Director
Olivia Doerge
has worked for more than five years as a journalist, editor and writer in multilingual
media both nationally and abroad. Before coming on board with the Macondo Foundation,
she worked as a newspaper editor in Cambodia. She studied at the University of Missouri
and completed a Master’s degree in bilingual and bicultural studies. She has lived and
worked extensively in Latin America.
Program Coordinator
Yvette DeChavez
began her work with Macondo as a workshop volunteer. A San Antonio native, she has worked
in local schools and communities with at-risk youth promoting education and literacy. She
attended the University of Texas at Austin where she received her Bachelor’s degree
in English Literature. Yvette is returning to UT Austin in pursuit of her Master’s
degree and PhD, focusing on the writings of Mexican Americans.
