Casa Azul (house interior)

Casa Azul Residency

The Macondo Writer-In-Residence Program

The Casa is a new and unique facet of the foundation that provides an experience distinct from the annual writer’s workshop. At the workshop, the importance of the communal experience is honored; meanwhile, the writer-in-residency program recognizes the necessity of the individual writer to create at his or her own pace. Macondo founder and visionary, Sandra Cisneros, imagined the Casa as a space where Macondistas could retreat from the distractions of everyday life, and have a room of his/her own for the process of emotional, intellectual and spiritual introspection.

The residency is modest but comfortably furnished and consists of a private bedroom and office. The common rooms of Casa Azul (736 E. Guenther, San Antonio, TX) are shared with the administrative offices of Macondo Foundation. Residencies are currently only available to members of the Macondo Workshop for limited periods of time. Macondo Members should contact Olivia Doerge at macondo@macondofoundation.org for more information.

If you or your organization would like to sponsor one of the residencies, please contact Olivia Doerge at macondo@macondofoundation.org.
